Our Policies

Music Lesson Location:

Firefly Music Lessons provides music lessons to students at home.

Instruments:

Clients are responsible for providing their own musical instruments. If you do not already own an instrument, Firefly can recommend places where you can buy or rent an instrument.

Lesson Days:

Scheduled lessons are provided Mondays through Sundays. Statutory holidays are assumed to be lesson days unless cancelled in advance. Lesson days and times are arranged between the client and the teacher.

Lesson Length:

Firefly Music Lessons typical provides lessons that are 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes long. Firefly may recommend a different length of lesson based on the age of the student, instrument and skill level but you can choose the lesson length of your choice.

Lesson Time for Scheduled Lessons:

The time of lessons is pre-arranged and remains the same each week for each student. Exceptions to the schedule can be negotiated directly with the teacher as long as 24 hours advance notice is given.

Lesson Semester Definition:

Winter: January 1 - March 31

Spring: April 1 - June 30

Summer: July 1 - August 31

Fall: September 1 - December 31

Teacher Selection:

All prospective Firefly Music Lessons teachers are carefully screened for competence, level of training, relevant experience and personality. All prospective teachers must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening Check through their police department. Teachers may not begin to teach for Firefly Music lessons without delivering the original completed document to us.

Lesson Cancellations by Clients:

If a client wishes to cancel a lesson, they must provide 24 hours advance notice, otherwise the lesson will be billed. When a client cancels a lesson with at least 24 hours notice, they will not be charged. All lessons cancelled by the client above and beyond two per student per semester will be charged in full. As an alternative, clients and teachers are encouraged to reschedule a cancelled lesson for a later date. Rescheduled lessons do not affect the charge for lessons.

Group Lesson Cancellations by Clients:

If students in a group lesson (more than one student in the same lesson) wish to cancel their lesson, all students in the group must provide notice 24 hours in advance of their scheduled lesson, otherwise the client will be billed for that lesson. If one of the students in the group wishes to cancel their lesson, the group will be billed the full amount for the lesson time. When students in a group lesson cancel their lesson with 24 hours advance notice, they will not be charged. Each group is allowed up to two 100% refundable cancellations per year. Any lessons cancelled above and beyond two per semester will be charged in full.

Lesson Cancellations by Teacher:

If a teacher needs to cancel a lesson, the client will not be charged. All possible efforts will be made to provide students with suitable opportunities to reschedule any cancelled lessons. If it is not possible to reschedule a lesson that the teacher has cancelled, the client will be credited for that lesson.

Invoices for Lessons:

Clients will be invoiced by the semester. Payment is required within two calendar weeks of receiving your invoice for the semester. If you are starting lessons partway through a semester, only the remaining lessons for that semester will be billed.

Invoice method: An invoice will be sent to you via e-mail in PDF format. Please ensure you have an e-mail address on file with Firefly Music Lessons so that your e-mail program will not reject our e-mails.

Payment Timing:

Payment for the semester is due within 2 calendar weeks of receiving your invoice. If payment is not received within two calendar weeks of your first lessons, Firefly Music Lessons reserves the right to suspend all further scheduled lessons without notice until payment has been received.

Payment Method Options:

Payment may be made online with Mastercard, Visa, or Interac through Firefly Music Lessons Payment webpage.

Late Payments:

Overdue payments will be charged simple interest at a rate of 12% per year prorated for the number of days from the date payment was due (i.e. 20 days after the invoice was sent to you) to the date Firefly receives your payment. The late payment charge will be added to your next invoice. If payment becomes overdue by more than 6 weeks, Firefly Music lessons reserves the right to suspend lessons without notice until payment has been made.

Vacation Plans:

If a Client has pre-planned vacations during a semester when lessons would normally be provided, advanced notice to Firefly is appreciated. If advanced notice is not provided, Firefly Music Lessons' Cancelled Lesson policy will apply.

Cessation of Lessons:

If a student does not wish to continue with lessons, please notify Firefly as soon as possible. Advance notice of 2 weeks from the date that lessons are to be stopped is expected.

Lesson Confirmation:

When clients are invoiced for lessons, they will receive a list of the lessons covered by the invoice for each student included in the invoice. They will receive a record of each lesson day and time for each student. If any of the information is incorrect, clients are encouraged to contact Firefly Music Lessons as soon as possible to change the lesson schedule. The Firefly administration will remove lessons that are cancelled before a new semester begins.

Amendment of Policies:

Firefly Music Lessons reserves the right to change and/or modify our policies at any time without notice.
