Music has played a very significant role in the cultural development of Toronto. One of the most famous Toronto piano players is Glenn Gould. Gould's first piano teacher was his mother. Glenn Gould also took piano lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Glenn Gould became famous for his recording of The Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach. Glenn Gould remains an inspiration to all young piano students in Toronto.
Another well known Canadian piano player is Oscar Peterson. At a young age Oscar Peterson learned to play classical piano but later on he developed into a talented jazz piano player. During the early years in Oscar Peterson's career as a jazz piano player, he taught piano lessons in Toronto. Later in life, Oscar Peterson was a mentor at the York University jazz program. Oscar Peterson was an amazing piano player, and he will continue to be an inspiration to all young piano students in Toronto.
